Sports Medicine Reduces Pain & Gets You Back Up and Running
Sports medicine begins with the treatment of the acute injury. The initial goal is pain management, which may include the use of therapeutic modalities like heat or ice, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. It then follows the athlete through every step of recovery and rehabilitation, from pain relief, to optimizing muscle length, to returning to pre-injury performance. Exercise routines encompass things like strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance to improve performance.
The final progression of the exercise routine is the utilization of sport-specific exercises to help return the athlete to his or her former performance level and reduce the likelihood for re-injury.
